The Blood Center to collect blood for 36 Hours straight at LSU

Posted by Paul Adams on July 9, 2018 9:37 AM

New Orleans, LA – The Blood Center partners with the LSU AgCenter for the 36 Hour Blood Drive July 11 and 12 beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Thursday.

“Blood donations typically dip during the summer at the same time that hospital needs increase,” says Paul Adams, Public Relations Manager for The Blood Center. “Partnerships like the LSU AgCenter help insure that blood is available for patients.”

All donors receive a Life Saving University shirt, Amazon gift card, coupons from participating businesses, a voucher for a large Domino’s pizza and pint of Blue Bell ice cream along with hourly door prizes and food provided by several area restaurants.

All blood types should donate and are encouraged to bring a friend with them when they give. Visit for more information on the 36 Hour Blood Drive. Businesses, religious or community organizations wishing to participate or host their own blood drive are urged to call (800) 86-BLOOD.

The Blood Center, a nonprofit organization led by a volunteer Board of Trustees, is the primary supplier of blood and blood components to more than 30 area hospitals and outpatient facilities throughout Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. The Blood Center operates 10 donor centers in the Gulf South.

Every type is the right type, and while 60% of the population is eligible to donate blood, less than 5% does it. To maintain a healthy and stable community blood supply, The Blood Center must collect between 300 to 350 pints of blood every day.

Fast facts:

  • 1%, that’s how many more Americans it would take to end blood shortages
  • Blood donors need to be 17 years of age (or 16 with a parent’s consent) and have a picture ID
  • The donation process takes less than an hour
  • Someone needs blood every three seconds
  • You can donate blood every 56 days

Blood is traditionally in short supply during the summer, yet the demand for blood and blood components is constant. Find The Blood Center on social media at @TheBloodCenter.
